When SEO Gets Tough

Hey guys thanks for joining me. Today, a very serious subject and that is when your SEO just isn’t flowing at the same rate as you had originally anticipated at the outset of the campaign.

When this happens, there are basically 3 ways to deal with the issue.

First, you may need to recalibrate how quickly rankings or traffic should increase. It’s especially important to understand that rankings take time, and page one rankings precede new patients. So being sure to understand that until you’re in the top 3 organically, you’re not expected to get nearly as many phone calls as the top 3. And probably no phone calls if you’re at the top of page 2, unless you have an extraordinarily high level of search volume for those keywords. So that’s important to realize.

The second thing you can looks at is whether or not you’re able to do more. By that I mean, sometimes if the SEO company you’re working with is saying that they could do more with a larger budget, consider the competition level of your area – and you should know this before entering into an SEO contract by the way – consider whether or not the competition level you’re in might justify a lift in that budget.

Third, consider whether the SEO company has an explanation or strategy moving forward on how to deal with the unexpected resistance. Psychologists have said that the urge to quit is greatest right before a breakthrough.

Hopefully this situation doesn’t ever plague you, but if it does you should know that it’s not uncommon and you should look for expert advice on how to deal with it. Google said rewriting product descriptions will not give you a win in the search results. Google said do not do extended A/B tests, it can confuse GoogleBot. Google said when switching to a CDN, Google needs to relearn how to crawl your site but do let them know about issues you may experience. Google said if you recover from a manual action, you should see the notice within a day or two in the Search Console. Google has field operators to scan your premise’s wifi and other signals to improve Google Maps. Google is dropping the custom date range filter in the search options on mobile. For DMOZ’s 18th birthday, they redesigned and became mobile friendly. That was this past week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.

This is my advanced video on Source Flood where I show you 4 more plugins I use to build out a silo structure in about 5 minutes per state. http://seo.houtsgraphics.com/subscribe/

I use Source Flood along with Page Builder, Black Studio Tiny MCE, List Category Posts, and Post tags and Categories for Pages. With these plugins and wikipedia I can build out a state including a silo structure and links to all the sub pages and category pages in about 10 minutes.

The process is pretty simple and pagebuilder allows you to duplicate the category pages and make one simple change to show the city pages for the new state.

If you are having trouble with getting Source-Flood to work go ahead and watch my other video on Source-Floood. In a nutshell make sure the cities are BLUE when you publish, and try to ensure that you have most SEO type plugins disabled. The plugins I used to build the silo do not cause any issues with Source-Flood.

When building this structure all of your links will appear in the main content of your pages and better flow the linkjuice. I was able to build out around 10 states worth of pages in just a couple hours.

More Research on Tumblr Blogs for SEO

In my research over the last few weeks I’ve been mostly exploring different properties that can be utilized. Then I decided to take a step back and try to see what made Tumblr the most popular choice. Because it’s highly regulated and blogs are being taken down often, reliability can’t be the reason. There are tons of Tumblr sites available at any given time, and registering them is easy enough. I wouldn’t say I’ve lost many Tumblr or had issues with that platform in particular, though it is somewhat notorious for dropping blogs.

Reblogging to Build my Tumblr Authority?

One reason I particularly like the platform is a trick I am able to use to help to boost the power of my own blog very simply. I had noticed how quickly my branded Tumblr blog had gained power and wondered why. I may have sent some tiered links to it but I didn’t expect to have a PA 35 tumblr in such a short time. I also regularly reblogged some popular posts. It seems this was the trick. I’ve duplicated this and built the authority of other Tumblr blogs as well.

Targeted Reblogging with Scrapebox

I made a video explaining the process, but it’s pretty simple. I run a scrape for site:tumblr with keywords related to the tumblr blog I want to boost. This can be just a couple keywords or you can build a large list to reblog over time. Once the harvester has run, I run an alive check to make sure the result is still active. Then filtering out urls that don’t contain the word post is the next step.

I then have a list of posts related to the keyword that are alive, and are posts which I can reblog. From this point I can run the page authority check or if I’m feeling old school I can run a PR check. I can export this as a CSV, and order it by the page authority of each post. I found about 10 good ones in a short time.
